Wireless network and homegroup

Laptop is not seeing desktop network and therefore will not allow to join homegroup; please advise how to resolve.

Is your laptop accessing the internet? Are you going through a router?

Yes laptop is accessing internet through linksys router; but is not viewing the desktop network as a connection possibility and therefore will not allow to join homegroup.

SOLVED: Both computers had like names; changed the computer name on laptop and homegroup came up immediately.
