    Gigabit stability problems

My brother-in-law has a PC running the retail release of Windows 7 Home Premium. He has been having consistent stability issues with maintaining a consistent gigabit connection on his network.

I set up a Netgear gigabit switch, and connected his HP Server (running Windows Home Server), his Windows 7 PC, and a connection to his Internet router. Connectivity among everything works extremely well, but for some reason, the Windows 7 PC occasionally drops back to either 100MB or no connectivity at all. We replaced the cables to new CAT5e cables, we replaced the Netgear gigabit NIC with a Dynex gigabit NIC, we moved to different ports on the Netgear switch, and the Windows 7 PC still drops connectivity.

He goes to bed, and in the morning, the connectivity is either lost or reduced.

We have his power settings on the Windows 7 PC to be "high performance" and have the hard drives, USB, display, and everything else we can find set to "never" turn off, and it is set to never sleep.

He says that when he installed the Dynex NIC, Windows 7 apparently re-installed the same drivers used by the Netgrar NIC (RealTec) and he's getting the same dropouts.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks!

That is a quite common issue,
Try to disable ip v6 that seems to be a common fix for it :)

If you disable ipv6, do you not ALSO disable the Homegroup feature?
