DNS Server

Hey everyone, I have a Sony Vaio VGN-FW 351J laptop, every since I upgradded to seven, when i connect to my router (D-link DIR-628) I will have a internet connection for lets say 20 min, after that, my internet connection on the tool bar gets the yellow notice sign and my computer is still connected to my router but than i dont have internet access? I run the diagonstic tool and before it is done, my internet returns, but than it happens again, I once got the diagnostic tool to finish and it said something about a DNS server.. .Anyone help??

BTW, when other laptops connect it dosent do this

You mean maybe DHCP server?

Set the lease time on the router to its maxiimum setting - usually 99 days.

Alternatively and better, set a static ip address for the adapter in Windows.

Also, change the wireless channel you're using and set beacon interval = 500 ms.

Let us know if you have mdnsresponder.exe in the task manager.

Unless the laptop is not going to connect to another router (coffee shop, book store), setting it up for static IP is not the way to go.

That's the reason I didn't suggest it first.

Set beacon period = 500 ms. Yes, same.

If you want to set static ip, you don't need any info from ISP. Use the router's config page address for default gateway, subnet mask = 255.255.255.0.

Ip address = same as router's config page only change the last part to .150

For preferred dns server, use 208.67.222.222

As the Pc can still see the router but not the internet I think that this could be a DNS issue rather than DHCP.

One other thing It may be is a time-out setting in the router which is there to keep costs down on the old type Pay to connect rather than always on ISP deal - check in the router's settings for something like disconnect after 20 minutes ... or similar

To check if this is a DNS issue you could try changing your DNS Servers an example is ...

Primary 8.8.8.8
Secondary 8.8.4.4

Set these in the DNS setting of either your Network adaptor settings or Router

Did you try changing the radio channel to something different on the router?
