unable to connect

Hi frnds, im new to this forum, so pls help me to solve my problm with internet connection.

i installed Win 7 in my laptop(previous was VISTA) b4 5 days ago when i was in office, everything was fine, even the net was good at home only at ni8 times, when i try to access the net at morning it didn't happen to me. But since yesterday net is not connecting for even a sec...

So i brought my laptop again to office the net is working very fine, but nothing happens when im at home.
i did trouble shooting, some times the results comes as "invalid IP configuration" & some times use to show results as to switch off the router & on after 10 sec...
i did switching off the router & all normal things i can do, still its not connecting.

Im living in a apartment so so the router is in reception, from the router wire comes to access point in my floor & from access point only im getting the net connection, so im unable to know wats actually happens with the net at residence.

i tried to change my location, but for few sec... only its holding the changes, again its coming to previous location. ie: in the apartment where i live, network location bcomes as public, if i changes to home its not stable, after few mins auto its changes to public

Pls frnds help me to solve this
Thanks in advance

Hi Bad and welcome to seven forums!

When you are connecting at work, do you have a static IP? Or How do you connect at work? Also could you please tell me if you have 7 HP or 7 pro, or ultimate? What type is your router and your card?

Thanks,
Sarah

Bad,
Can you open a command prompt and type in ipconfig /all and then press enter. I'm thinking that your work environment works off of something different than your home environment will allow. Also can you do a print screen of what your properties look like and attach it please.

Thanks a bunch,
Sarah

bad00, if I understand you right, the problem didn't start right after you installed Win7, but a few days later, right?

Have you checked in your building if somebody else has had problems? Once I was banging my head on the wall to find a network problem until I found out it was down at the provider.

Do you have proxy set up in your connection settings?

Sarah ok, im in office right now, once im in residence i'll try what u said & will attach what u requested.

at last i brought up an D link wireless access point, i followed all instructions as mentioned in user guide & entered new IP add & gateway Add as it was mentioned, still the net is not connecting.

Sarah another point is, yesterday i went through Service i found an service named Internet connection Sharing (ICS) it was stoped, so i did start it but i got a msg as the program has started & stopped due to some other program blocking or it has opened in another program. Any idea abt this?

i can't understand whether the problm in my laptop or cable. if the problm is in laptop then how does it work at office? if the problm in cable then how it work on other pc's?

I will have to wait to be able to give you ionfo how to check the proxy, I am at my XP computer right now. Maybe Sarah can help if she sees this before (she is actually the one that knows networking here)

For now, try disabling IPv6: In system tray, right click network icon. Choose Open Network and Sharing Center. Click on Local Area Connection | Properties | double click Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4).
