    Jimbo

I tried your fix and still have problem! When I print off Windows 7 I can see in the printers box of the xp machine that a document goes to the attached printer but does not print. I can print from an additional Vista laptop with no problem

    Printer share trick

I performed the local printer trick that Jimbo45 indicated. It still would not recognize the xp printer. I deleted the printer from the 7 computer and tried to perform the trick again. Now the printer is removed but when I enter the computer and printer names it states that the path already exists. How do I remove the path so I can try it again? The printer worked fine before upgrading from Vista to 7. Kodac 5300 on XP system, Windows 7 on new laptop.

    Thanks

Ok .. Now I have my printer on A W7 machine and can now print from W7 using the trick as described .. thanks.
However I have the same problem as other when I try to get my wifes laptop Vista home Basic to print.
When trying to create the Local Port i get Access Denied. Printer is a Konica Minolta 2500W laser. I have the correct drivers and as I stated it works on the W7 machines so I have the right drivers .
    Please help

    Jimbo,

You rock! Just got a Windows 7 laptop and could not access either of our two printers. Your instructions allowed me to print on both of them in just a few minutes. I would have never figured this out on my own. Thank you so very much!

I tried using Jimbo's solution -- no success. I get an Access Denied error message, same as Ramogida.

The printer is connected to the Windows 7 machine, and I'm trying to share it with an XP machine.

Any help would be appreciated. This has been a very disappointing chapter in an otherwise pleasant experience switching to Windows 7.

UPDATE: I get all the way to adding a printer, specifying the printer name, and everything is going well until it starts looking for a print driver. I've downloaded the XP driver to the XP machine, but the XP driver won't install on the Win 7 machine.

    Help.

Thats because you have to install the Win 7 driver on the Win 7 machine. If the printer does not have a Win 7 Driver .. look for a Vista Driver ... If there is no Vista driver ... you may need a new printer.

Actually, neither of the drivers for my two printers (two different HP models) showed up on my Win 7 machine, so I picked the model numbers closest to the ones I have (one is a Photosmart, one a Deskjet), and both printed fine even though the Windows 7 machine is not using the right driver. So, you might try picking a "close enough" driver from the list presented (same manufacturer and closest model you can find) and giving it a whirl. Good luck!

Thanks for the info. To clarify, I DO have the Win 7 driver for the printer installed on the Win 7 machine, and I have the XP driver installed on the XP machine. When I try to add the network printer to the XP PC, the setup asks for the driver location (i.e., doesn't recognize it automatically). I don't know where the driver location is.
