Domain User login not remembering desktop & settings

Hello All,
New to the forum and my first post. I have been banging my head against my computer for a few days now trying to figure this out.
Heres what works...
I have Win7 running on Bootcamp on a MacBook Pro. I login using the login it made me create during install. Once logged in, I added it to the domain successfully. Now, when I use my domain login (domain/login: password) it logs me on and sets up a new desktop for me. All of my network drives are mapped and outlook can be configured with my domain user's exchange email account.
Heres what doesnt work...
After logging off and logging back on (Win7 remembers the last login, with domain and everything) it sets up a fresh dektop and doesnt remember that I set everything up.
Things of note...
domain\user has been added as a local administrator (still didnt work)
I have noticed that the domain\user "Profile" is set to 'Temp' and I cant seem to change it.
ANy help would be appreciated!

Are you using roaming profiles on your network?

If so I suspect there is a problem accessing the profile on the server it is stored on and thus you are being logged on with a Temporary profile.

I am looking at the profiles currently on my workstaton and it appears all of my logins have been cached to a Local Profile. How can I change my profile on the network from Roaming so i can login and cache one on my current workstation?

To disable roaming profiles you need to logon to a computer with Active Directory Users and Computers (dsa.msc) installed, usually your domain controller.
Find the user account you want to change, select properties for the user, select the profile tab and then delete everything in the Profile Path box.
When you next logon to your workstation it will create a locally stored profile.
Just note that any changes you make on the profile will not be copied when logging onto other machines.

Thanks for your help so far, but im afraid that didnt seem to work. When I look at the Profiles tab, there is nothing for the Profile Path. There is, however, a logon.bat associated to the Logon Script setting. Should I remove this?
Also, under Home Folder, it is set to "Connect:" with a path set for my network share folder. Should I remove this as well?

Doesn't look like you're using roaming profiles if the the Profile Path is empty. Don't make any changes to the other settings.
There must be another reason for this. Have a look in the Windows Event Log (Start > Run > eventvwr)for any Errors or Warnings that may point to the cause.

seemed to have solved it.
In a random vista 64 forum, i read that if, in exchange server, the user is a 'member of' the domain guests or the guests groups, it will never retain your settings to a local profile. Makes sense. So, I looked to see if my login was and, of course, it was a member of both. I removed both memberships and everything worked on the first try and all day today, both connected to the network or not.
leaves me with this question, if those memberships are what was preventing this all from happening, why hasn't that been the case with all the other XP machines on the network? They all have retained my settings in a local profile for years.

Well I'm glad you managed to resolve it. Can't say I've come across that one before though.
