Can't access one XP Pro computer

I have 4 computers. Two with Win7 and Two with XP Pro. My XP machines can access all the others including the Win7's. One of my Win7 computers can access all but one of the XP machines. All computer workgroups are the same and all the names are correct. Any ideas why one of my Win7 machines can't access one of my XP machines? All are hardwired thru a router, not wireless.

This usually has to do with sharing permissions on the problem XP machine. Try running the network setup wizard on the problem XP machine and see if that helps.

What happens if, in that "one Windows 7 computer", you type the path to the XP PC into the address bar in "Network" (My Network Places)?

    \\XPcomputer

    \\XPcomputer\SharedFolder

    \\192.168.x.x\SharedFolder

...etc. If you get an error message, what is it?

    \\Ronald1\SharedFolder

I get an error msg stating it can't be found. If I type in \\Ronald1\xxx it will show myshared printer and C drive.

It sounds like either a permissions issue or a firewall configuration issue.

Are you logging in to the Win 7 PC with a Username/Password which is identical to that of the XP PC, or does the XP PC at least have a User Account set up with an identical login to the Win 7 PC?

I don't use a password on either computer. The XP machine does have a user account, but no password.

I pretty much already concluded it was a permission issue on the XP machine.

Running the network setup wizard is the best way to fix this problem. Running the network set up wizard is standard procedure to enable sharing from the XP machine. Have you done that yet Ronnie?

Do you plan on using workgroup or public for file sharing?

If you are using an Anti Virus program you should disable it or uninstall it if it still doesn't work.

You should not have to have the same user name on both machines but it sometimes helps when there are problems although it shouldn't matter if you aren't using passwords. Both machines need to use a different machine name but can use the same user name.

Make sure these settings are all set correctly.
