Windows 7: Another Windows 7 to Xp networking issue

Okay, I just got a new laptop with windows 7 on it and I am trying to network it to my xp home network. On my xp computers, laptop and desktop, I can see my windows 7 computer but can't access it. Even turned off the easy file sharing and still can't access it. Cant even ping the windows 7 from them. The windows 7 laptop doesn't see either of the xp computers. I can ping them from the windows 7 laptop but can't actually see them on the windows 7 laptop. I am using a linksys router and can access the internet just fine on the windows 7 laptop and it is connected wirelessly. I have read through several threads trying to figure this out but most people can see the xp from the 7 but mine is the oposite. I made sure they are all setup on the same workgroup name that is how the xp can see the 7 but that is as far as i can get. Any help from anyone is greatly appreciated. Ask any questions you might have to get more info if needed.

What antivirus program are you running? I had to uninstall mine and then I could see the network. Then once you can see them you can reinstall it. Thats one thought.

What edition of 7 are you running?

I have norton internet security that came installed on the computer and I am running windows 7 home premium 64 bit.

One questions is if i can ping the computers with the norton internet security turned on, why can't I see it. Honestly, I don't really care if I can't access the 7 from the xp's but would rather be able to access the xp's from the 7.

type that in your command prompt and u should be able to ping it.

Installing Norton before you set up your network was probably a mistake. AV programs like Norton can cause all sorts of problems with networking between machines.

It can help if you use the same user name and password on the XP and Windows 7 machines but I certainly never had to do that.

It was already preinstalled on the computer so I had no choice. It is only a 60 day supscription so if I can't get around it by then, I will uninstall it.

Those preinstalled programs are the worst thing ever. First thing I do is uninstall those adware programs. My wife's laptop was loaded with them also. I agree with IT girl's opinion on this.

Those norton pop ups urging you to install Norton doesn't mean you have to install it, those are just standard preinstalled adware. But because people get sick of seeing those pop ups they install it just because they don't want to see them anymore.

There have been so many problem associated with Norton lately I would never install it.

There is also a free program to use. AVG Free. After you uninstall your Norton and see your network, install AVG and everything will be good.
