    No Internet Access

    Good day all,

I have a network cable coming from a router that has DSL connection.

When I connect the cable to my laptop, it connects to the network but it says that I don't have internet access.

However, When I connect my brother labtop or any other laptop, I connects to the network and gets internet access.

In addition, when I connect my laptop to another network, it connects to the network and gets internet access.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I did an ipconfig command, it showed me that my laptop got an IP Address from the router which is 192.168.1.110.

But when I disconnected my laptop and connected the second laptop, it got 192.168.1.111 as an IP Address.

Then, I took every single information and I configured my laptop manully.

I put the same IP Address, Default Gateway, DNS that the second laptop got.

The result is that my laptop now get internet access but it keeps disconnecting.i.e for some time it has internet access but when I try to visit any website, it disconnects.

If any one can help, please advise.

Did you try restarting the router? If you did try to release and renew the IP address. The link has some info on how to do it.

The Router has been restarted many times, I don't think that this will solve the problem.

I have also done an IP release and renew, but the system keeps giving me the same IP Address (192.168.1.110) no change.

By the way, I have Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit.

    Thanks for your help

Have you tried to manually assign a different IP address? Also, is your router set to automatically assign an IP address?

Try do a comparision of the ipv4 settings between your laptop and your bro's. Could it be some settings on your laptop that triggers this issue.

Also, may sure your NIC adapter driver is correct.

I did that, so it connects to the internet but when I tried to browse any website, then it disconnected again.

If you wait for a while it will connect again but will do the same thing repeatedly.

What i meant was to check both machines, the one that works and the one that done work, to see if there are any settings differences. Usually in the tcp/ipv4 properties.

To do this you may have to write down the settings from the machine that works (when it is connected to the modem), and then try and see if those settings matches the machine that doesn't work.

Also you said, you said you connected the issue machine into another network and it works, what network is this?

But when I disconnected my laptop and connected the second laptop, it got 192.168.1.111 as an IP Address.

When you unplug one machine and connect another, the DHCP allocates the next available IP to that machine. It doesn't know that you have unplugged the first machine. It's easier to set ip to auto detect, cos if you set things to manual ips, and you modem is set to dhcp enabled, you might get issues.

I did the part related to writing down the information then configuring that manually. It works fine that it now at least gets connected but when I just tried to browse any website, then it disconnect automatically.

It will be disconnected for a while then it will connect again.

Many thanks to you. Waiting for the next step.

If you can give me the exact model number and also version of the router you are using I can look up if it's compatable with Windows 7. Sometimes there are firmware updates other times there is no support at all for Windows 7.

I've seen these problems coming up for months now, lots of router compatablity problems lately.
