    Not connecting to router

    Hi,

I have HP DV6 1335 laptop. It comes with windows 7 home premium and realtek nic PCIe FE(It might be 8169). I am trying to connect it to netgear router using wire lan, its not able to connect. When i run diagnostics, it says to restart the router. I restart it and click the check again it says "local area does not have valid ipconfig". But i have 2 other laptops (a dv4(vista) and a lenovo(xp) connected to the router through wire lan). When i run ipconfig the dv6 ip address starts with 169... ,no gate way or subnet mask for the nic. But my network is 192.168.... as both lenovo and dv4 has 192.168... addresses(auto detect). I disconnected the cable and connected it with a desktop running xp and it worked fine. I tried disabling ipv6 or giving manual ip also but still the problem persists. The dv6 can connect using wireless but i want to connect using wire cable so wireless solution is of no use

    thnx

well your wireless is finding your DHCP server on your rotuer but your wired NIC isn't so I can only think drivers

you could try copy the ip accross from the wireless settings from CMD ipconfig /all and just add 1 see if that works but I cant help feeling this is drivers on the NIC

Have you tried the following commands?
    • ipconfig /release
    • ipconfig /release6
    • ipconfig /renew
    • ipconfig /renew6
    • ipconfig /flushdns
    • ipconfig /registerdns

I'm still thinking NIC drivers as you know your router works for your other PC's, there seem to be a few varients on your laptop and the possible realtek driver versions, where did you get the latest driver for your Network card from ?

have you tried going to the HP website and finding the exact model you have then updating all of your drivers from there ?

You mean you want to connect to your router's control panel? There should be a default IP, when you reset the router, connect to it via cable using that IP.
