Network Windows 7 to 2 Windows XP machines

    Hello All,
I have three PCs on a network. The first is a laptop running windows XP, the second is a laptop running windows 7, and the third is a desktop running windows XP. After a lot of work I, and quite a bit of post reading, I was finally able to get the Laptop running Windows 7 to recognize and share files with the desktop running Windows XP, but I can not get it to recognize the laptop running windows XP. All of the workgroups are set to "MSHOME" and I have changed the advanced settings on the Windows 7 machine to allow for better file sharing and network discovery. Please see my short description below of which PCs can see which.

Laptop with XP - Recognizes and can open shared files from both the Desktop with XP and the Laptop with Windows 7

Desktop with XP - Recognizes and can open shared files from both the Laptop with XP and the Laptop with Windows 7

Laptop with Windows 7 - Can only open shared files from the Desktop with XP. It can not recognize the Laptop with XP.

I have tried 'ping'-ing the Laptop with XP from the Laptop with Windows 7 using both the Computer Name and the IP address (at least I think it was the IP address... truth be told I'm not sure I used the right set of numbers...)

Any help anyone could offer would be very much appreciated.

    Hi and Welcome to SF.

I'll begin with asking, how are all your machines connected to the network?

    Hello,

aem - Thank you for your speedy responce. The Desktop PC with Microsoft XP is hardwired to a Linksys Wireless-G 2.4 GHz 54Mbps router. Both other laptops connect to the network wirelessly though the same router.

Ambra4 - Thank you for the link you provided. I went though the article, but I still couldn't seem to get it all to work. The Window 7 Laptop still 'sees' the Windows XP desktop, but not the Windows XP laptop.

Try this one it might help. Networking home computers running different versions of Windows

It sometimes helps to use the same user name and passwords on the XP machines. Running the wireless network set up Wizard on the XP laptop might also help.

Best thing to do here is to confirm that you CAN ping all machines from the others.

Can you provide ALL ipconfig details of all machines?

    Hello,

aem - Please find the info attached. (I couldn't figure out how to past the screen shots into the body of the post...) Thank you for all of your help. If you tell me how to properly 'ping' another machine I can try that as well.

In your Laptop with 17, can you manually iput these

    IP: 192.168.1.1.07
    Subnet 255.255.255.0
    Default Gateway: 192.168.1.1.1

After that, do ipconfig on this machine and see if the Ips have stuck.

    If so test ping.

    aem,
I have successfully pinged the XP Laptop from the Windows 7 Laptop. Please find the results below. I don't know much about networking, but I would take this as a good sign. It appears it isn't a hardware issue. Your continued support if very much appreciated
