Shiny New Laptop for Christmas -x-

    Hello Anybody and Everybody,

I have a shiny new laptop.. It's an Acer 5542 with windows 7.

My old laptop is a Medion and it is conneted to the internet via wired broadband.

I am trying to get the new one on and am NOT succeeding.

I plugged the new one in and did all the set up bits then plugged the router in and expected it to work. (silly me !!)

I've had a look through my 'bits & bobs' box (the one with all those start up discs in that you hope you'll never have to use !! ) and found a disc that came with the broadband router... SO... I put it in (thinking I was now very clever ) but I got a message to say that it was not supported by windows 7

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR............ I need help (or therapy... or BOTH !! )

    pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeese .......... -x-

    Hi AbsoluteAngel! Welcome to SevenForums!
Try putting the disc in to the drive and then going to Computer.
Right-Click the Disc in there and click explore.
    Look for a setup file.
Follow this tutorial to run the program in Compatibility Mode for whichever OS it is compatible with.

    Post back with your results.

    Thanks,

You will more than likely need to update your firmware so that your router will work with Windows 7. It may or may not have updated firmware for Windows 7 depending on the model.

Been in touch with Orange (my ISP) and they told me to download an updated driver !!! ARE THEY MAD !!! This would mean downloading the updated driver to my old computer (as the new shiny one is NOT connected to the internet - that being the problem, DUH !!!!!! ) ........ so NOW they sent an email telling me that I can look on their website for an updated package !!!!!!!! What the F**** !! (now.. I don't normally swear BUT....... ) I bought a package from them for wireless internet which wouldn't work. The 'advisor' who was obviously reading from a script.... kept coming back to the conclusion that it was my computer that was at fault... SO.... I hung up and reloaded the wired router back on and settled for that (even though paying for 'wireless' ). Has no-one got any common sense any more ?
So, here I am struggling to get my shiny new computer onto the internet. I have e-mailed them to see if my 64bit windows will work on the wireless router that they sent me (Seimens) but not heard from them, yet.
I have looked on the internet and it seems that my problem is just a drop in the ocean - there are hundreds, nay thousands out there struggling.............. pass me a shotgun !! ****
