wireless network between xp and 7

I have a laptop which is wireless and a desktop which is wired, both to the same router.

Desktop is XP home and laptop is windows 7 home premium.

They should both network set up like this shouldnt they?

For some reason I can sometimes access the 7 computer from the xp computer, but not from windows 7 to xp. On the windows 7 computer it shows both computers but when I click to open the XP computer it says the network path was not found.

THey are both on the same Workgroup

    Hi 7up,

Did you see my response in your other thread about this issue? Please let us know if you tried following the instructions on this page: Networking home computers running different versions of Windows

Also, in your File sharing settings try switching from 128-bit encryption to 40- or 50-bit encryption. Let us know if that fixes anything.

    Cheers,

Please make sure that both of your advance network sharing windows look like this.

If you are using passwords it sometimes helps to use the same user name and password on both the Windows 7 and the XP machines. You do however, need to use a different machine name on both machines.

All settings are correct, yet nothing works. I have 7 pro on a desktop and xp on a desktop. I can view both and share files between both.

Yet the laptop is 7 home premium and nothing works. I cannot "see" the laptop from the xp computer. I can "see" the laptop from the 7 desktop but cannot access it. It says the network name cannot be found. It shows the name of the laptop on the desktop 7 computer when I click network, but gives me the message that the name cannot be found on the network.

Am going to try reinstalling home premium on the laptop and see if that helps.

On the laptop, using explorer and clicking network, I can see the laptop computer name only.....none of the others

I'd like to tell everyone with these types of problems to reinstall as 99.99 percent of the time it's something that the user did to cause the problem in the first place. Nobody's fault at all just people getting used to a new Op system. Unfortunately not everyone wants to spend the 15 minutes it takes to do that. Glad you got it working again.
