Disconnect shared drives permanently

I am home user running Windows 7 professional and have mapped a network drive (Y:) that points to a folder on a LaCie NAS on my LAN. When the mapping was setup, the "Reconnect at Logon" option was selected.

Now I want to permanently disconnect that mapping. I have tried:

1) Disconnecting in Windows Explorer
2) NET USE /PERSISTENT:NO
3) NET USE Y: /D

The drive disconnects no problem, but when I login again, the mapping is back. How do I get rid of this mapping PERMANENTLY?

What happens if you disconnect, then remap and clear the "reconnect at logon" check box, then disconnect?

Do a "net use" command and see what is there.

then "net use /delete <drive letter>"

Eg if your y drive is set to a \\name\share

net use /delete y:

1) Disconnect, remap, clear reconnect at logon - it still reconnects the mapped drive

2) net use /delete y: - will try it and see - let you know.

3) net use /delete y: - unmaps the drive but it just reconnects at logon.

Any other ideas?

So when you restart machine, it shows up under net use still?

In Windows Explore, Tools, click Disconnet network drives. Is there anything for you to disconnect?

Last resort, is the registry.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Map Network Drive MRU.

Delete what you need in there.

I tried all these - absolutely no joy. It still reconnected. Don't like messing with registry - not enough of an expert.

I deleted the share on the NAS (it was only a backup) and that prevented the re-connecting of the mapped drive. Still do not know what caused this to happen and deleting the share is a bit of a sledgehammer to crack a nut, but it worked.

Strange thing is that I have another share on the same NAS and I can disconnect/reconnect that at will without it automatically reconnecting at logon.

You don't need to be an expert to go here and right-click delete item in the registry.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Map Network Drive MRU.

To get bring up the Registry, Start > type regedit (in search field) and enter.

Ok, I realize this is an old thread, but there was no "resolution" to the problem in the thread.

I was having this same problem my self, and the run "net use" command in this thread gave me the answer in my case...

Status Local Remote Network

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Unavailable M: \\192.168.0.253\home NFS Network
Unavailable Z: \\192.168.0.253\user Microsoft Windows Network
The command completed successfully.

I was trying to disconnect M: but no matter how many times I did it in Windows Explorer, it would be back after reboot. Also "net use /delete M:" did not do the trick.

But what I realized after running "net use" and getting the above list, was that the mount was of type NFS, which lead me to the soloution which was to run the nfs umount command.

I ran "umount M:" and the mount is bothering me no more!
