Streaming from Win7 to the PS3

    Hi all,

Earlier I was trying to stream media (video files) from my Windows 7 computer to my PS3.
My computer is connected to the network via cable but my PS3 uses WiFi.
My problem is that my streaming video files lag alot, even though I have an extremely fast internet connection. The buffer speed is not a problem, because when I press "Select" on my PS3 remote control, it shows that something is 20MB/S and I'm guessing that's my internet connection.
However, there something also that is only 20-100 KB/S, and I think that is the problem. Is that the video playback speed? What is stopping my videos from playing perfectly?
Everything else regarding streaming and sharing files works fine.
I have a Realtek audio card, more about it I do not know.
    I have Windows 7 Ultimate.
I am streaming with Windows Media Player.
Even after I have buffered the whole video, and I fastbackward to the beginning it still lags.

I send my kindest regards and a wish of a happy new year!

Edit: This is via a media server ^^

I have the same problem,i never figured it out so i just put it down to the WiFi connection in the PS3 being at fault, where as with online games you actually have a disk etc, just things happen within that enviorment.
Where as with streaming,it has to create the enviorment via a wirelless connection.

Id just burn the film to a dvd-r.They all play in the PS3 as its region unlocked:)

Thanks for the reply, yeah I also have an external disk but it'd be nice to be able to watch for an example LotR in 1080p :P

    Hi and welcome

Thnaks for the new year wishes
If you are trying to stream from wn 7 to PS3 its internal lan. If cabled 100Mb, if wifi dependant on 802.11 b,g, or n could be from 54mb to 300. internally between win 7 and ps3 you should be getting abt 25.
question what are you using for your network protocol? When you set up win 7 did you use homegroup? you can check by going into network and sharing. If Homegroup, wrong. Homegroup is for win 7 only, uses IPv6. You can do a quick check. set up a new network connection. Use the workgroup model. disable Ipv6 and see what happens

Let us know if you need help

    Hi,

No I did not use a homegroup when I setup Win7 but I have a homegroup now when I was trying to set this whole thing up.
For the latter part of your answer... dang :P i tried to make a new connection but I could only make it as dial so ofc that didn't work, and trying to edit the options for my working network won't work, I can't click anywhere that'll take me to some options menu (I'm in Network & Sharing Center)

No you're right, my homegroup is nothing related to this. :P He (zigzag) just asked if I thought it was I think

Gah... I think I didn't mention this. I am streaming via a media server, and it shows up on my PS3 and everything, but it's just so slow (not the buffering but the video playback)

could it be that I'm capped down to 500 kb/s instead of 6 mb/s? One wouldn't think so because it's local i'm doing here

hi, I have the same problem

The only difference is that i run it all using a gigabit lan.
so i don't thik it has anything to do with the kind of infer-structure you are using.

I'd like to ask you a question, does your steam slowly wind down till it loses connection with the media server. that is what mine does, when i check the PC i have lost network connection and to restore it i have to either reboot my switch of disable enable my network.

i'm starting to wounder if this is and issue with windows 7 to PS3.

maybe the solution is to try nero's media server program, see how that goes

Okay... If you are streaming media from your computer. Your internet connection has nothing to do with it.

It is actually your Wireless card. If you dont want lag and you want something that is solid then i suggest that you hardwire it with at least 100 megabit... i have 1000 gigabit becuase the ps3 has that speeds on its own NIC

another ting to use which makes things alot easier which i have no problems with as long as you dont go messing with the settings is the PS3 Media Server which is used by your Java. Works very well. Never had a problem with it.

by the way, when your streaming... use a good switch and router... also static IP your ps3.. that way you dont have the DHCP resetting in the middle of a stream
I have everything streaming so if you ned help, i'll be more than happy to help
