Windows 7: Dialup connected but no icon

Dialup connected but no icon

I have been using Windows 7 for some time now but noticed lately this anomaly when I connect with dialup. The connection icon does not show up, instead what I get is "Not connected-Connections available" icon. When I connect through wireless the icon changes to show that I am connected, but each time I switch to dialup it seems I am not connected but I can browse. Even when I click the network icon on the taskbar I can see that the dialup is also connected, but why would it not show like it used to before on the taskbar? I don't know if it has anything to do with any network software I installed, but I recently installed ultravpn but have since uninstalled it after using it for an online registration which was bouncing my ip address.

Please can anyone look into this and suggest a solution? Thank you all in advance... and Happy New Year.

When I connect the connection icon on the bottom right hand side of the task bar still has a red X through it. When I click on the connection icon it says "Not connected Connections still available" , but under the dial-up VPN it says dial-up Connection - Connected. Everything was normal until yesterday morning and I have no idea why this has changed. My McAfee will also no longer auto update and I had to run the McAfee Virtual Technition in order to get it to update. Is there anything that I can do to fix this issue??
