Can't share/stream to anything

Streaming works perfectly with Windows 7 both 32 and 64 bit I can assure you of that. I have tested it every which way possible and it works flawlessly for me although the permissions and settings all need to be set correctly. It sounds like you have the premissions right.

I assume you aren't using Homegroups to share because it won't work with a cross Op system set up as in no Vista or XP sharing with Homegroups. Streaming works either way but probably better in a Homegroup network which you can't use because of the Vista machine.

AV's can cause a lot of problems with it though. Which AV software are you using?

I run Nod32 on both Win7 laptops, streaming works fine from the 32bit one with it running, I disabled it on the 64bit earlier today and still didn't get anything.

i am having the same issues, my windows 7 64 bit desktop can see and access our laptop, a toshiba satellite running windows vista. but i cannot access the windows 7 machine. it says that i don't have privelages, access denied. i have tried turning off firewalls, av software (also nod32 on both machines), and have both set for full aceess full control. very frustrating.

My issue appears to be resolved, I'm not sure what exactly fixed it (or which combo), but I can now stream from by 64bit Win7. I did the following, some of which I had done before but I was very methodical this time.

Turned off both win7 laptops and xbox, booted up 64bit and checked every media sharing option to make sure everything was enabled properly. I removed all the network devices it had found (xbox, 32bit laptop, TV) so it would re-add them with default settings (which I had as full control) when it found them again. I deleted everything from the WMP database C:\Users\xxxx\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Media Player) and opened WMP to force it to rebuild. I then shut down the 64bit laptop, booted up 32bit Win7 and performed all the same steps (sharing options, removing all network devices, clearing WMP database). Shut down the 32bit Win7, booted the Xbox and cleared any connections to Media Center or computers I could find, cleared its system cache too. I then booted both laptops and after restarting the WMP Network service the two WMP's could see each others libraries, and the Xbox could see them too.

Your issue looks a little different as I never got any errors about Access Denied, mine simply didn't show up.

One statement says he has the Win 7 machines joining the Homegroup yet the second statement shows he has a Vista machine in the network. You can't have a Vista machine in a network that has Homegroups set up. That most likely is the cause of the orginal problem.

This simple user error has caused more problems with sharing than any thing else.

So in a network of multiple PCs, if there is one PC not running Windows 7 then you shouldn't setup a homegroup for the PCs that are Win7?

I figured if the 32bit Win7 was joined to the homegroup and streaming was still working from it then the homegroup wasn't the cause. Either way, I'll be leaving the setup as it is now before I throw anything else off.

Yes it will only cause problems such as you are describing. Everyone keeps doing that with their Win 7 machines and it's just wrecking havoc.

I dont think anyones to blame, nowhere during the setup of a homegroup did I see anything warning against doing it if non-Win7 PCs are on the network. Plus since you can still have a workgroup and a homegroup it can be confusing.
