Sorry, I went back and edited it but I don't know where it went
My upload never changes. Sometimes the DL speed will drop down to 2 or 3K if there is a problem with say one of my DSL filters or such. What setting on your network card controls upspeed or helps it?
Sorry, half awake here.
I'm not exactly sure I could help you with that. I'm sure someone will be able to help you *grabs someone*.
I have AT&T DSL. I pay for the 6KMb speed plan, don't remember what the UL is supposed to be. I have a D-Link Dir-655 Router hooked up to a Westall Modem. The Modem has got to be at least 5 years old. I do everything wireless in my house except for my DirectV, which is Wlan.
Last month my DL speeds would be all over the board. Going from 1K to 6K, I found the problem, a bad DSL filter upstairs, and now it's very stable. Here is the kicker. While I was having these problems my UL speed has never changed from .42~.43. I find that interersting to say the least. What are the tweaks I can play with to help with that. In real time talk I feel like my UL time is too slow if I am uploading stuff. I am pleased with my DL, of course I can always use more!!!!
BTW, myToughbook has a Intel 5100. My other Toughbook has a Intel 4965 and it is alot more stable, consistant that the 5100 card for sure.
In all actual fact I bet you have ADSL and not SDSL.
SDSL gives equal DL and UL speeds, and is not normally used except by businesses or web servers. ADSL give asyncronous bias between DL and UL speeds, to keep down the costs of the subscriber line to the customer - and limit bandwidth usage.
If you want improved figures then consider cable, or getting SDSL... but bear in mind your existing router will almost certainly no longer prove compatible if you shift to one of these alternative means of internet connection...
They are running the lines right now for the ATT U-Verse. The fastest speed package they have is 25.00Mb DL & 7.00 for UL. I was talking to one of the supervisors the other day on my street & he said that with the location of the Hub being so close to my house my speeds should fly. It is just outside of my subdivision and my house is the 2nd one in. I think I am going to switch. I can't imagine speeds like that!
Yes, you are correct it is ADSL. I have tried the cable thing but it sucked!
