Please help me with my home network

I have this wierd problem with my homenetwork that I hope someone here has the answer to. (Im connecting my pc (windows7 ultimate) to my ps3 through a switch)

the problem described to my best abbility below:

"I cant connect my pc to ps3 through my switch while internett is connected"

Here is some facts that might help pinpoint the error.

-When Im using an app called pms (ps3 media server) the PC and PS3 does find eachother, but the streaming stutters and copying does only go 1mb/s when internett is connected. (so something is limiting it to exactly 1mb/s)
-When im using the same app without internett connected streaming and copying works fine.

    additionall info:

-when the internett is connected wmp sharing doesnt connect at all.
-when the internett is disconnected the wmp PC and PS3 connects but all the video/music/photo folders appears empty.
(anyway im not gonna use wmp sharing so I would appriciate if someone also tell me how to disable it while makeing media sharing with other applications still work.

Ive tried disconneccting my firewall and antivirus (kaspersky)
Ive changed possision on the cables connected to the switch.
Ive recently installed windows 7 (1week)
    Using a 3com giga switch

Please help me fix this so I can connect pc and ps3 without having to disconnect internett, dont make me go back to xp again or even worse go white... (witch I did consider after buying vista)

Welcome to Windows 7 Support Forums,
Since you are wanting to connect up the PS3 you will need to modify your equipment. A Switch by definition will allow you to connect to seperate pieces of equipment, you will need different cabling such as bidirect/passthru but you will not be able to have the periph connect to the isp. A router is better enabled for this to happen as you will share the same connection behind a firewall with seperate addresses. Routers can be purchased with cabling for as low as $30-$40
Let us know if this helps.

    Regards,
    Adrian

sry it took so long to just buy freaking router, but now I have :)

    And it works 100%

So to whoever stumbles upon this thread trying to get a switch working, buy a router
