Win 7: Unidentified Network - No Internet Access

    Hi All,

I have a custom-built new PC running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bits, and was running great until today for no obvious reason I got this "Unidentified Network" and "No Internet Connection" error. My PC is connected to D-Link switch, which is then connected to the Trendnet router which has the internet connection. I Google and tried several things to fix the issue that seems related to my Intel 82567LM-2 network adapter:

    - Disable IP V6
    - Uninstall driver, restart to re-install
    - Install latest driver from Intel
    - Disable Bonjour and remove QuickTime (just to make sure)
    - Add some registry value based on similar Vista problem Windows Vista cannot obtain an IP address from certain routers or from certain non-Microsoft DHCP servers
    - connect PC directly to router
    - Bang my head on the desk

Nothing worked. Any suggestions are highly appreciated.

This is supposed to help with Intel network adaptor problems.
Network Connectivity - Unable to uninstall network adapter drivers and/or teams

This should help get the correct drivers for your Intel adaptor.

Guys, the OP has said that he has his machine working fine till today. This implies, there was nothing wrong with his setup or driver that we can see (or can't see). The error comes about could be due to new changes made to the machine (this we need to establish if it's the case). Best way to undo these changes (if that's the case) is to do a system restore and then go from there.

    System Restore

system restore should be used as a last resort always try to find a cause and solution first, you should not get into the habit of doing a system restore every time your computer hiccups system restore can compound existing issues

That is not always correct computersplus. You can save alot of time if you do it before getting into more mess. Currently his setup is clean, and for something to used to work and then not work, we just don't know what the cause is (it can be 100 things). Trying to blindly troubleshoot can get him into more mess. You cannot troubleshoot if you don't know what changes he has made that may cause the issue. Guess work is not a good thing to do in this situation.

You are correct in saying restore should be one of the last things to do. And you are also correct in thinking it's good IT practice to try and find the root cause of the issue rather than find a cheap way out. This i will agree 90% of the time.

In this particular situation, something had changed his system. We just don't know enough to be saying it's a system/router/modem issue. For what we know it could even be an ISP issue.

In any event simply resetting the router should fix the problem if there is nothing wrong with the adaptor. If the Op hasn't tried that yet he should.
