    HELP !!! v.92 56k modem & 7 64 bit

Hi does anyone have experience using US robotics 5686e v.92 56k external modem with windows 7 64 bit ? I put up a post earlier today with no hits and I really need to find a solution to dial up internet access for my new computer. This modem appears to be compatible with the 64 bit version of 7 but I'm looking for some user experiences. Any ideas on hardware would be appreciated

I just checked and your modem is good for Win7 32/64bit if it has the latest firmware. (see link below)

    USRobotics says:
Installation for Windows 7 32 bit and Windows 7 64 bit
The modem will install using the default driver provided by Windows 7.

We need a little more information.

Why are you only using a 56k modem?
    Where inthe world are you?
    So your question is what?
Will Win7 64 bit see the modem in Device Manager?
Does it have any exclamation point next to it in device manager?
Do you know how to setup IE8 for a dialup out?
    Are you using IE8?

Have you updated the latest firmware for the modem?
    Check here for more details.

    Tell me more. Thank you

Thanks for the reply iggy az . I live in a rural area in Niagara Falls Ontario Canada with no dsl service, and other types of internet service are much too expensive. Unfortunately v.92 56k is the only cost effective solution at this time. Most of the info I see on the web leads me to believe that dial up modems on windows 7 64 bit are quirky and I'm into an easy install with as few issues as possible. I know some hardware manufactures say their modems are compliant but most don't say if they work with 7 64 bit .I have seen little first hand experience with 64 bit compliant modems on the net. I'm looking at getting the asus p6x58d motherboard and want the best fit for it .WHAT IS IE8 ?

Great IE8 is Microsoft Internet Explorer V8.
The US Robotics website say that you do not need any additional drivers for Win7 64bit so have you installed it yet or are you waiting for your new motherboard?
I actually had a 56k US Robotics modem.

So are you having problems witht he modem or what?

My modem came with a CD but 7 x64 recognized it straight up, and an updated driver has come through from Windows Update, and no don't ask why I have a dial-up modem.

My modem said XP on the outside, Vista on the slip of paper / manual - just stick it into the PCI slot and start up the PC, mind ESD.
