Well i'm really stumped now. That blue circle at startup is nothing more than trying to connect. I don't think this is a network issue though.

shot off an email to microsoft tech support. See if they've got any idea.
blue circle at startup, NIC is basically trying to establish a connection and when it cant, it keeps on circling. Either NIC, Modem, ISP or Firewall issue.
Just posting a possible solution, after trawling the forums all night.
Turned my computer on and it seems to be working. I had to change the power management options in my network configuration to prevent windows from turning off the device to save power. Not sure it it's a once off, but hopefully it has corrected the issue.
