do you know anyone with a spare that is one on the list?
i gave you a link to compatable routers on microsofts web page.
see if that will do the trick as well.
Can yo static IP your computers for us so we can do some ping tests.
If you need help.... I'll be more than happy to write down the instructions.
First thing we need to find out is your dns:
Open up "cmd" using run or search; however you want to do it.
Type: Ipconfig /all *hit enter*
you will see your dns numbers during the same network card you use to connect your modem through
next thing you need to tell me is the:
Gateway:
Might say something like this:
192.168.0.1
192.168.1.1
192.168.2.1
thats usually the america protocol...
If your outside of the states, it will say gateway to the left.
Please inform me on your settings
think ive figured it out.. 192.168.1.1 is gateway for this comp via router
i found out how to get primary and secondary DNS thru router status
im gonna setup 2nd pc and see what happens
Lets do this since probaby your router made your ips either .100 or .2
PRIMARY (WINDOWS 7):
IP: 192.168.1.10
SUBNET: 255.255.255.0
GATEWAY: 192.168.1.1
DNS:
DNS 2:
SECONDARY (WINDOWS XP):
IP: 192.168.1.11
SUBNET: 255.255.255.0
GATEWAY: 192.168.1.1
DNS:
DNS 2:
REMEMBER IF YOU HAVE ANY ISSUES, ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS PUT THE NEXTWORK CONFIGURATION BACK TO OBTAIN AUTOMATICALLY AND THAT WILL FIX IT AGAIN...
YOU HAVE TO PUT THAT DNS IN BOTH BOXES OR YOU WON'T BE ABLE TO VIEW WEB PAGES.
im posting from 2nd pc so far no drop.. do i have to setup the static on the 2nd PC as well??
Honestly,
I would. It actually makes things alot easier.
Because it defines the computer and helps us to work on your computers so we can tell you how to fix it, ping it, umm find it on the network things like that.
I have actually seen improvements when i have made all my computers static. Also, your router has a DHCP release so with static you dont have to worry abut that. Your ip stays the same all the time.
Incase yo guys play network games, which is a big games, to connect one another... you would use your IPs.
let me know when everything is up and running and we can do some tests.
its all setup now.. LMK what to do
edit- to test im downloading a big file to see if the connection drops.. usually drops within a few seconds and so far it hasnt.. fingers crossed :P
