Your right I lost my G. Yes it's 1000Mbps on the lan for me. 1000 on the WAN also but i'll never see close to that. His file transfer rate seems way too slow I agree.
Wait a minute, could it be down to the wrong type of Ethernet cable?
Cat 5 should be fine for those speeds. I use cat 6 because supposed to be faster but no big diff really.
Yes, a cat3 cable could technically be used...but is only rated for 10 megabits per second...which comes out to 125,000 bytes per second.
Cat 5 is certified to support 100 megabits per second over 100 meters (327 feet).
Cat 5e and 6 is certified to support gigabit per second over 100 meters (327 feet).
Do you have any Firewlls or Antivirus running
Like i said ... these anti virus can be a pain in the *** and sometimes they lke to scan files as they leave and come in the network... so if yoursending files, and its scanning that could be a big slow down.
Look on the cable your using to connect...
What CAT does it say 3, 5, 5e, 6?
Okay I plugged in some different spare Ethernet cables - maybe a FEW% faster now... but it still feels *very* slow - gradually crawled up to about 660KB/s - I but I'm pretty sure I was getting about 10 times that when copying windows XP to windows XP...
