Connected to Wireless Network, But No Internet Access

    Hi,

As said, I am connected to my Wireless Network but have no Internet access. So far I have looked through the forums and done the following:

    - unticked the ipv6 box
    - pulled any Firewalls down
    - disabled and re-enabled my network adaptors
    - tried the ipconfig/release and renew
    - left my IP Address detection to Automatic. This is because when I tried looking up my DNS on my desktop, it was not in my Ipconfig page so I didn't know what to fill in on my laptop. So when I filled in my IP address manually, there was no DNS to fill in and this didn't work.
    - disabled Bonjour
    - tried flushdns
    - According to the laptop my network adapter drivers are up to date. There are two listed:
Atheros AR8131 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller and
    Intel(R) Wifi Link 5100 AGN

I have not tried uninstalling these as I am concerned about doing damage to the laptop and I am not sure which I should uninstall. My sincere apologies - I am not very good at IT! I would really appreciate any help you guys could give.

I haven't made a screenshot of my ipconfig/all yet but my IP address is:
    169.254.xxx.xx
    and my subnet mask is:
    255.255.0.0

The Default Gateway field is empty.

I know that this means that my laptop isn't receiving the signal from the router but all the other computers in the house are running fine, with no problems from the signal. I have also restarted the router a few times.

Any help is greatly appreciated! I upgraded from Vista.

You may have the MAC address clone problem that everyone seems to be getting.

Try this> 1. Control Panel->device Manage->Network Adapter->Adv.->Network Address, put some values in the text box

When you restarted the router did you use the actual reset button?

Hi, thanks for the responses. Tried both tactics, no luck still I'm afraid. Am taking the laptop to the computer repair shop, will let you know what gives. Thanks!

Ok looks like we need to try and add some details

    HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\Interfaces

    Under there are your NICs.

But go back up to Paramaeters, what is meantioned for DhcpDomain, DhcpNameServer (DNS)?

    Hello,

    Welcome to 7 forums :)

    * I would like to give you an advice. The same thing has happened in my cases. I have tried some troubleshooting steps in vain.

    * Finally, I found that my Internet credit was due and they have temporarily disabled my connection . Then I payed the credit and resumed the access.

► May be you can check this at your end. Sometimes we might not notice this simple thing. :)

solliu, when you're back and still having problems, I've wrote a small guide to troubleshoot internetworking, you can read that, see if you can understand your situation better.

    Hi all,

Just wanted to say thank you for all the help, it was very helpful but sadly none of it worked. Just posting what worked for me here. I took it to the repair shop and the guy said most likely it was that my Vista drivers were incompatible with the Windows 7 ones. This was not detected when I ran the Compatibility test thing and my drivers are fully up to date. What worked for me was removing all my data to a partition on the computer and then doing a clean install as apparently upgrading from Vista causes this problem.

Thanks for your help again everyone!
