Ok here´s a wierd one, can and cant connect...read

ok so I have a friends laptop, dell inspiron 4000 (i upgraded the ram and hd). While at my home I can connect to the internet via a usb wireless adapter, rosewill RNX-G1, without issues, the router a Linksys, is setup at stock with WEP 64bit secured. At his house I am using the same usb adapter but with a netgear wireless router, though same settings, WEP 64 bit with key, but it will not connect.

I have already tried rebooting all devices, and still cannot connect. its only the wireless thats not working, I can hook up the cable and connect ok.

I tried resintalling the drivers for the adapter and no luck, I also tried changing the settings in Windows 7 but not working, haent a clue why it wont work here but will at my house.

Any idea....

Are you sure your friend's router is broadcasting network with WEP, a common error is that the adapter is set to one type of security and the wireless network another.

It could also be the router doesn't know that the adapter is trying to connect to it. If the error is purely a login issue, then looks like the securty type needs to be looked at, if it can log on to the SSID but no internet then maybe the router needs to know the MAC details of the adapter, which it sounds like it doesn't.

Well It is broacasting in WEP, I just checked again, í will attch an image of router settings.

The router must see the adapter, the network icon says that the router is visable as a connection but when clicking on it to connect it says, windows unable to connect to Netgear. I cant take a capture of that happening because I only have one usb port in the back...

update... i just figure it out, i had a setting incorrect, DOH! the WEP auth type was set to shared, when it should have been to automatic, i caught that as I was posting the snippet.

thanks
