New Router

Hey it's me Cris1,

I bought a Asus RT-AC68U Dual Band 3x3 Wireless-AC 1900 Gigabit Router because our old router is really damaged and full with problems , so I bought a new router then I read the "Quick Start Guide" then It says that I need a Modem , I thought it was only a router-only thingy for example you just need a Ethernet cable plugged in to the router then to the computer.... Do you really need a modem for this? I'm doing it wrong.??

[EDIT] I have a Prolink H5004N ADSL Modem/Router PDLTMYDSL , It acts like a Modem and Router so you can just put your ethernet cable there and put the other end to your computer then you will have internet access can you make the Prolink router/modem act like a Modem only so that the Asus Router can receive internet access?

Not sure if there is a question on there - but to connect to the ADSL Internet, yes, you need a modem.

Looking at your edit, you say you have a modem/router/ You need to put it into bridge-mode, disable DHCP and run a RJ45 cable from it to the "WAN" port on the new router. Then you need to set the new router to pppoe-mode with the correct protocols (VPI/VCI etc) which you get from your old modem or your ISP.

Do you have any tutorials for this ? I can't quite understand it..

Modem is an acronym for Modulation/Demodulation, does the communicating [talking] between devices such as the computer to the WAN/Wide Area Network or Internet. Usually one computer can connect directly to the Modem but adding a Router allows 4 wired and some Wi-Fi connections [if it's a Wireless Router, most are nowadays].
