    wifi weirdness

    G60 win7 - can get online wired no worries, wireless gets weird;

    I can see my home network and enter my password but cannot connect to it.

    I can see random unsecured networks and connect to them fine but no internet.

    My home network runs perfectly well with other laptops and macbooks.

    Belkin wireless router - N / 801 etc.

    Any ideas? I will pay for a solution (for real) - win7 wifi issues - cannot go wireless to the internet - $50

    It might be your security settings

    change your router's security to WEP.....

    You would have to log into your router and go to your wireless settings.

    You had to do it one time or another since there is wireless security on it right now because by default when you buy a router there are no security setting on a router and its open to everyone.

    Change it to WEP.... I understand that maybe everything else is working but maybe you got a wireless device card on that laptop that is not acceptiong anything higher than WEP....

    I have had that happen to me too....it won't accept the WAP/WAP2

    If your router is broadcasting WPA security and your wireless adatper only support WEP (for example), W7. You won't be able to log on. Like acurasd said, try changing the network to WEP. Check that W7 wireless utility also has WEP and see if you can log in then. There is no need to restart the router or start over. The SSID is detected and you only have a login issue.

    To acurasd re:

    Don't want to sound like I'm trying to rain on your parade, but that statement ain't necessarily so. At least not in Aussie land. Might be the case if you buy one from a PC retailer, but if you get one in a bundled package deal of phone/internet, like I did from Telstra in Aussie, then the wireless router/nodem comes with a pre-installed security code.

    Re general theme of this topic, I have a Netgear USB wireless dongle, and when I try to connect it to my ADSL2 wireless router/modem using OS WinXP Home, I get all sorts of problems. You can toss a coin on any given occasion as to whether it will connect or nor. Sometimes a re-boot fixes it. Other times I have to re-enter the security password.

    However, if I use the same dongle on the same PC but run it on Win7 OS, it connects first time every time. So go figure, eh! My son's a PC techo and when I told him it worked flawless on Win7 he commented: "About time Microsoft got their act together! Only took them about 4 versions of Windows to get the Netgear dongles working properly."

    Cheers PB
