Very strange wireless problem on my 7
I understand there's another thread about wireless problem but it seem different.
I think it's more of a strange bug I found or corruption on a file somewhere. I am sure someone has similar experience and I hope this might help someone in the future.
I have a laptop (Acer AS1410 with Intel 5100 AGN) with 60GB OCZ Vertex with clean W7 32bit installation works great until a week ago. I have 2 wireless routers, both ASUS (RT-N13U and WL-520GU) and provider is Shaw (Cable) in Canada.
Some of the web page started to load slow or not loading at all. For example, hotmail.com will take 5 minutes but google took only 3 seconds. I suspected the wireless at first, update firmware and restore many times and can't solve the problem until I took both my laptop/wireless router to work. With same settings, same wireless router and same Internet provider, it works without problem. hotmail loads within seconds. The only difference is I have a linux dhcp/firewall between cable modem and wireless router. I have tried both wireless router in both locations and they did exactly the same thing.
Strange enough, I took home with the same setting again, it loads extremly slow. But, if I manage to open/download files from nvidia.com, I can still get up to 2,000kb/s download speed. It's only opening web page is taking time.
Hook up RJ-45 instead of wireles, problem goes away. Disable on board Intel 5100 AGN and and use a USB wireless N and the problem goes away.
I put my original hard drive (2.5" SATA Hitachi) with clean Windows 7 I have which I later upgraded to OCZ SSD and boot it to Windows 7 that has exactly the same drivers before I upgraded to SSD and it works fine, so there's no problem with my Intel 5100 AGN either.
Therefore, I eliminated down to Windows 7 setting problem on my SSD only when I am home. I tried the latest driver from Intel and it didn't help. I compared the driver files from my original hard drive (4, 2 under windows/system32/driver and 2 under windows/system32) and they all have the same date. Not to mention everything works at office but just not home. (note, I had another Windows 7 desktop with wireless N and there's no problem for hotmail to load within second)
I know one thing will probably fix it, re-install the Windows 7 again because same thing on my other hard drive works ok. But I'd rather find the reason before I wipe everything out.
anyone?
