Windows 7 ignoring Router's QoS

Hello and thank you in advance for any help

OS: Windows 7 Ultimate (build 7600)
  • Defaul Install
  • Latest certified drivers for all devices
Router: Linksys WRT54G with Tomato 1.27 (latest)

I have QoS activated in the router and download limits used to work just fine under Windows XP SP3 and Windows Vista, but since i upgraded to Windows 7 it will take up all of my internet bandwidth (downloading, watching youtube videos, etc)

I haven't tried tweaking anything so far, and have the same problem in all my home network pc's (2 more of 'em, upgraded with windows 7 too)
  • All Pc's are connected through WiFi
  • If i connect a Windows XP/Vista based PC it will respect QoS

Kay

Hello

Fixed my problem, but it was not Windows 7 but my router's QoS Configuration

Although i tried several values for the Reserved Bandwidth (25 and 30%) i have the feeling the result is the same, not a bug in my opinion but an awesome packet scheduler once i figured out my real problem: Modern bandwidth-hungry web pages !

My Router's QoS was configured to prioritize port 80/443 TCP connections (for web surfing) but only the very first 256KB, I increased the value to 512KB and 1024KB and now it is a totally diferent story, smooth web surfing even when downloading big files (i'm still playing with the value trying to fit it to my average usage)

So the QoS was working ok but giving priority to only the first 256KB of it.

Thank you acurasd the tutorial you sent made me realize what the problem was.

I am glad that everything worked out. I actually have to work on that myself. I have a DGL 4300 and I play games and if i have my netflix running on my ps3 and playing my games on my computer at the same time.. my ping is 700 and above and that router is suppose to prioritize my games first.

Recently I bought a TP-Link WR841N router and, unaware of what it needed, there had to be an ethernet cable coming from the main router (BT Homehub 3) for it to work. Is there any way I can connect these two wirelessly? I don't mind whatever way I connect it to my PC.
