    vpn help

I'm working in China for the time being and I was having good luck with a VPN called freegate. Now that I've installed a wireless router my IP has changed and I am no longer able to use my VPN. I am also running Avira free antivirus if that makes a difference. I'm new to using VPN's and I really need help in understanding how a VPN works so I can access Facebook and other sites banned here by the government.

    Running Windows 7 32bit
    AMD Athlon II X4 631 Quad-Core Processor 2.60GHz
    4.00 GB Ram
    TPLink Wireless Router

    Thanks

changing your router should not have any effect on your IP address--unless--it's a modem/router combination.(IP address is generated by the modem).
as far as your VPN is concerned--changing the IP address would require re-entering your information in your VPN connection as an IP address change will affect the source computer (yours) 'connection permission' to the VPN.
