The DNS Server Isnt Responding

Hi.

Im a new user here and I just registered to see if you guys can give me any help. In the last few days my router has started playing up. I cant connect to the internet on my laptop or my PS3.

I can connect to the wireless network Ive been using but when I connect to it in the bottom left of my screen it says the network has no internet access. I tried doing the Windows problem solver and it says that the problem is that "The DNS server isnt responding". When i try to go online on my PS3 it says there has been a DNS error also so it must be something to do with the router.

Ive tried all the basic stuff like resetting the router with a pin in the reset button but I still get the same message. Ive also tried using another router with no success.

Here is a few screen shots below of my command prompt, my control panel and my routers homepage. Hopefully somebody can spot a problem and can walk me through the fix. Please keep it simple though as im not the best at understanding computer talk :o

Have you went to your ISP's homepage to check their dns server addresses.

Try using these as your DNS servers. Log into your router and enter these.

primary 208.67.222.222
secondary 208.67.220.220

Manually enter those server addresses into your Ps3. You should be up and running. Let me know how it goes.

Who is your ISP?

On your router configuration page, is there an option somewhere along the lines of "get DNS automatically from ISP"? If there is, uncheck that option and use those server addresses I replied with earlier.

Dont know if this has anything to do with it but here is a screen shot of my network properties. Ive got everything set to be assigned automatically. Do I need to change anything here or is this just for setting a static IP address ?

In the IPv4 Settings page you just posted a screen shot of, Try entering those DNS Servers manually there as well. Make sure those DNS addresses are still listed in the router configuration page as well.

OK.... On the IPv4 properties page switch everything back to the way it was.

One more thing we can try is turn off your router and leave it off. Go into "Network and sharing center". On the left side of the page click on "manage wireless networks".
Right click any network listed and then delete. Boot down your PC.

Hard reset your router again back to factory defaults. When your router is back up and running boot up the PC and set up a new wireless network.

No success. I also have a Netgear router spare. I tried doing the hard reset on it aswell and I get the exact same message with it.

This very well could be a problem with your ISP. I know it's really frustrating, just try to stay calm. What kind of internet connection do you have? Is it ADSL or a cable connection?

Its an ADSL connection with Homecall/Tiscali. If I cant get this sorted out this weekend then I think im going to move my broadband/phone to Sky. If I did that would this mean that these problems would be solved because id get a new ISP, new modem etc

Hopefully this can be sorted though ;)

Sometimes if you disconnect your internet cable from the source, boot down the modem and wait a few minutes your ISP will assign you a new IP address when you connect everything again. Preferably your computer should be off during this process.

Maybe you can try Tiscali tech support and see if they have any work arounds for your problem.

Sooner or later We'll get this issue resolved.

Ok. Ill give them a call in the morning. What if I changed my ISP. If I did that i would get a new modem/router etc. Would that solve these problems ?

Hi dude,

The router page clearly shows tht there is no connection and in the security log it says ADSL is down.
Did you disturb the connection/settings before this issue started?
Did you contact your ISP and check with them whether the connection is up and running?
Wat is your network setup? If Modem>Router>PC, remove router and conn directly to modem and check.
I presume, your ISP is down, since you have told, conn another router didnt solve the issue.
So, the settings are correct I presume, if you havnt disturbd it.
Did you try conn thru a LAN cable?

Let us know. Al the very best.
