Windows 7: Taskbar and recent RDC's

Taskbar and recent RDC's

I have always had Remote Desktop Connection pinned to my taskbar. When I opened a new RDC that i've never done before, it would save it at the bottom under "recent."

So I've always right clicked on the RDC icon on the taskbar and selected my desired connection, or pinned that new recent connection. Now it doesnt do that anymore... Recent isnt even listed anymore.

Does anyone know what caused this?

Hello BJP,

Double check to make sure that you have Recent Items turned on still.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Yup, I did forget to mention that Recent Items is turned on and under all my other pinned items it shows recent items....

Any other ideas?

Are you trying to pin the new RDC while it is still connected. I only have one RDC, so I cannot try with a new one to test it.

No, let's say I add a new server to my network. I go to Start, Run, mstsc. I type in the new address/name, then once I authenticate to the server, it adds it to the Recent Items on the "already" pinned icon. But thats what it's not doing anymore. FWIW, I have about 20 pinned RDC's.

I suggest you set up your RDC as a permanent part of your taskbar: The new Windows 7 taskbar.

It is. RDC is pinned, and has been since day 1. I'm just saying that my RDC jumplist isn't showing Recent Items anymore. Unless I am misunderstanding your comment

What is your jumplist setting in " Customize start menu"? If it's 0 (zero), you won't see entries in the jumplist.

Just off the top of my head - I think there is a maximum number of items that you are allowed to have on a jump list

this number would include the pinned items if you reach this number by pinning items, that the function will no longer be available to display recent items

OK, I did check the number allowed and they were set at 10, so that was fine. BUT I figured out something...

When I clicked on the start menu, I went up to the pinned RDC jump list from there (instead of the pinned icon on the taskbar) and the recent items showed there. I went back down to the pinned icon on the taskbar, and NOW the recent items show....

Sounds like there was some sort of bug in software...

Explorer icon in taskbar doesn't show recent items
When right-clicked my Windows Explorer icon in the taskbar only displays "Desktop" under "Recent". I use it to open lots of things, how come I never see them listed under "Recent". I guess these are called Jump Lists. They also don't display at all for Microsoft Word. There are some there for IE...

Question about the taskbar "recent programs"
I enjoy windows 7, and I love the new jumplist feature. Problem is, in order to use it I have to enable the "Store and display recently opened items in the start menu and taskbar". I can pin folders that I frequently visit, and the same goes for just about anything else - I do NOT want to see...

Recent Places add to Start Menu and Taskbar?
I see recent ITEMS there but would like to recent folders as well. Office 2010 (and 2007 I think) has a great option called Recent that calls up recent Folders. Seeing recent folers is often more important to me that specific items/docuemnts. Way to add it?
