Networking 7 and XP Issue

Evening all. My first post here

We have a small home network setup. 1 notebook running 7 Pro, 1 pc running 7 Ultimate and 1 PC running XP Pro SP3.

I am having trouble networking in a number of areas, well 2 at this juncture. First and foremost I cannot see the PC running XP on either of the 7 machines. They all belong to the same workgroup and the two 7 machines can see each other no problem, but not the XP machine. The XP machine can see the one 7 notebook, but not the 7 PC. (very weird).

On the 2nd issue, in the past I was able to share folders specifically, but in 7 it seems I can only share through the public folder and I do not want to replicate data to be shared with the other connected PC's by placing data in the public folder and keeping copies thereof in the usual folders of residence.

Really appreciate any help.

Regards,

Go through this tutorial about sharing with XP, click on the XP tab, it should help.

This one is more general but has good info.

It can also help to get around password problems if you use the same username and password on all machines in the LAN.

After going through all of that if you are still having file access problems try doing this registry adjustment on the Win 7 machine with the problem.

Solution is really easy just modify one key in registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System
create or modify 32-bit DWORD: LocalAccountTokenFilterPolicy
set the value to: 1

Thanks for the help. The resources are exceptionally useful. I had settings as outlined in the manual.

It was the inclusion of the key in the registry that did it though

Thanks again.

Well I usually save that fix for last but the way it's been going maybe I should show that fix first because this little problem sure seems to occur frequently. I'm not even sure what is the exact cause yet.

Thanks for reporting back in RVFmal, I will mark this as solved.
