If all fails, you can always re-install Firefox.
Firefox is the only program that can go online, it's not broken.

Try disabling the Bonjour service which installed with itunes because it can cause all sorts of strange connection problems.

To disable the Bonjour service Go too Computer > Manage > Services and Applications > Services => find the bonjour service (sometimes is shown as long numbers), shutdown service, and set to Disabled.
Sorry, I did not mention that I did this too. iTunes can still not connect to the internet, along with all of the before mentioned programs.

Go into this location

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings

Look for ProxyEnable key, if the value is set to 0x0000000(1), right-click it, Modify and put in 0.

Also is there a Proxyserver key?

Go Start > type in the search box "regedit" (without the quotes), then hit Enter. This will bring up your registry editor.

Then you just follow the directory and drill down to the location.

Found it thanks. Yes there is a proxyserver key, or at least there is a long string for the data value. What does that mean?

Thanks for the help

It could mean you have a proxy server looking after your internet connections. Right click on the Proxyserver key, rename, and name it as OLDProxyserverOLD. That way you won't have no proxyserver entries, and you can change it back should you need to.

By proxyserver key, I meant that there something on that list that says "ProxyServer" and that the data value is very long. There isn't something called "ProxyServer key" if that was what you were referring to.

Is that what you meant. Sorry for having you spoonfeed this to me, lol.

ProxyServer entry. I refer to the entries as keys. The very long data value is a value know by the system only, a hash if you like.

Have you done what i suggested?

Yes, I just renamed it to what you said.

Since I am not exactly sure what we are doing, let me just reiterate that while on 2 different wifi networks, no program including windows can access the internet except FF. However, when I tether on my iPhone using iPhoneModem, all programs and windows connect to the internet fine.
