Virgin Media broadband drivers in Windows 7

I bought an Advent Roma 2001 laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium on Saturday but when I tried to install the drivers for my Virgin Media broadband connection using the CD, I got a message saying that the OS was not recognised and I needed to upgrade to ME or XP. I phoned the Virgin Media helpline but they seemed to suggest the computer was at fault, has anyone else had this problem and is there a solution?
Also the Advent came with no manual so I don't know how to access the built-in webcam, I never used digital visual media before so I don't know the programs which one would use, can anyone help please.
Thankyou for taking the time to read this, your help would be much appreciated.

    Hi Neil

How are you connecting the laptop to the modem - WiFi/USB/Cat5?

the advent roma is basically an ECS 150iLi model so you may be better looking for a manual for that laptop advent do'nt supply manuals as regards the broadband i am with VM on cat5/wifi and did not have to load drivers

Many thanks for your help, but I reckon I'll go back to the shop and see what they can do. I am also consodering using this computer as a DVD player because the screen is a dream and makes my opera and ballet DVDs look divine, so the thought of exposing it to the slings and arrows of the Internet is maybe best avoided.
    Thanks again for your time.

You shouldnt need to install Broadband software as modems/routers are pre configured to work on ethernet straight away.

Im on Virgin Media and just plugged it in and worked straight away.

If it doesnt, reboot both laptop and modem/router and that should work fine.
