Solved identical issue on my T60

I found this forum & thread after I ran into the same problem as the original poster, on my Lenovo T60 running Win 7 Pro 32-bit. The original problem was that the Ethernet device (hardwired LAN connection) disappeared from the machine. Not malfunctioned, not present but no recognized, but completely missing in action.

After reading this thread, and poking around the Intel chipset support site, I tried yet another reboot with BIOS configuration. I had noticed that the Intel Pro LAN interface ran on PCI. Looking at the BIOS config page for PCI, it lets you set the interrupt addresses. Mine were all set to "11". I noticed that another config option available was "Automatic" so I set them all to that. Completed the reboot and my Ethernet LAN interface was back in action again!

At the time I noticed the problem, I had just upgraded the T60 memory from 2GB. Who knows, the added memory may have provoked the old interrupt address configuration to fail. In any case, the new config works fine with the expanded memory.

... recently I installed windows 7 on my Lenovo T60. First I thought the install went flawlessly because I was able to access the internet but later I realised that I was accessing the internet through wireless and my ethernet port was not detected. I installed the intel chipset driver but I can't install any ethernet drivers because the ethernet card is flat out not detected at all. I've searched all over Google and haven't found anything like this so I'm completely stumped.

Also there's only one driver in device manager that's unknown but I'm pretty sure its some sort of storage driver, its called Intel(R) ICH7M/U LPC Interface Controller - 27B9
An old thread I know but it was the first hit I got on Google.

I have just upgraded my still very much loved T60 and (T61p) to windows 7. I wish I hadn't so apprehensive about leaving XP and done so a long time ago.

So like the OP I found myself thinking I had a good install but soon realising that I only had network and internet access thanks to the native INTEL wireless card.

So I have the same problem except the Ethernet Controller IS detected and seen in device manager however there are no windows 7 specific drivers and the vista drivers will not install.

Actually after disabling the wireless adapter, to make sure I wasn't making a goose of myself I realised that in fact, the LAN adapter did as shown above, have network and internet access. I only thought it didn't because it wasn't appearing as a connected network in the taskbar.

So while I did nearly almost make a goose of myself I haven't completely because of this unexplained behaviour. So here is a side by side comparison (actually above and below):

So what might explain the LAN adapter appearing in the task bar on one Windows installation and not the other?
