Some questions about HomeGroup

Is Home Group in Win 7 the old My Network Neighborhood in XP? Is it available in all versions of Win 7 like Home Basic and Home Premium? If not, how do you connect to a home network? Thanks.

Hello jacatone.

Here's the tutorials about Homegroup, a good place to start; I don't have much knowledge about it myself but someone will help you shortly.

Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit) *** Windows XP SP3 (32-bit), OSX 10.6

Hi jacatone,

Here's a page on explaining homegroups: Home sweet homegroup: Networking the easy way in Windows 7

To answer your questions though:
Homegroups are network overlays intended to simplify file and printer sharing. (Network Neighborhood was the Explorer folder for browsing networks in Windows 98 and earlier. It was replaced by My Network Places, which is still present in Windows 7.)
Homegroups can be joined in all versions of Windows 7, but only created in Windows 7 Home Premium and above. You can still connect to a Home network normally in Windows 7 (in fact, this is the first step in setting up a Homegroup) but Homegroup offers additional features. Read the page I linked to above for more info.

Let me know if you have any more questions!
