windows 7 internet connection in taskbar is not working

    Does the cross go away when you use LAN connection. If you are using wireless you should get the bar graph.

    Can you check what setting you in the Notification Area Icon.

    problem solved i had sun virtual box installed i removed it and every thing is back to normal!!! so anyone else out there with this problem check what you have installed to do with networking!!!!

    no not at all i went through my programs i have installed (288 last count!!) and it occurred to me that this program i don't use may be the cause after looking at what it is used for, so as soon as i removed it and rebooted the icon started working
