    network confusion

I am experiencing a weird network problem. I have a Windows XP desktop, and Windows 7 laptop and a Ubuntu laptop. All are on the same named Network which is called HOME All machines are on yet the 2 windows machines don't see each other, but I can see both windows machines shares from my linux laptop. The strange thing is, I have mapped one of the XP drives to the Windows 7 laptop and it saw it for about 2 days and now it doesn't. I checked that every computer is connected to the HOME network. What next? More importantly, why does this occur?

I always recommend removing (not disabling) any third party software firewall/antivirus applications, doing a reboot, and seeing if the networking issues stop.

If your network contains computers running different versions Windows, put all computers in the same workgroup. Here is a resource to help you set it up: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/w...ons-of-Windows.

I have them all on the same network (workgroup) it is named HOME.
right now after rebooting the windows machine, they are all showing now. Time will tell, I am monitoring everything closely to see if I detect why one or two computers drop out.
    Thanks.

When you say the w7 and Xp can't see each other, do you mean as you type "\\W7" and "\\XPmachine" the shares are not listed?
