    Sudden Internet Problem.. help please

    Hello,
I dont know much about computers but this is my problem. I just got a new computer a month ago and came with Windows 7 and everything was working fine. So I shut my computer down one day and when i booted it back up 20mins later the internet stopped working. This is what I tried to do to fix it...
-Run virus scans. Found no threats
-Unplugged my cable modem and plugged it back in
-Troubleshooting. it always just says "Explore additional options" or "close the troubleshooter"
-I tried search "cmd" and typing "ipconfig" and resetting my IP by typing "ipconfig /release" then "ipconfig /renew". I have no idea how to read them but I tried that.

The little icon on the bottom right near the clock doesnt have a "x" or a "!" so I thought I had a connection. But IE or firefox doesnt work.

    How can I fix it?

    thanks
