    bridging and pppoe


    Hey all can someone tell me this please. I want to connect my computer through pppoe to the isp all that through my other computer which is connected to the isp modem via lan. and the first computer is connected to the second via wireless. I have bridged wireless and lan connections on the second computer but i cant seem to connect the first computer to my isp (via pppoe). What i came to find via wireshark is that im not receiving or not being able to send pppoe network discovery packets which are used to initiate the pppoe connection (my isp cant see them and i cant see other either , but i can when i connect the computer directly to the modem , just not through the bridged connection)
    anyone can help on this?

    If you're using Internet Connection Sharing and the main connection to the modem is running PPPoE you can't use bridged.

    im not using internet connection sharing, i just want to bridge (right click and bridge) the two connections, that should be like physically connecting the first computer to the modem (not routing) but it seems like pppoe traffic is being filtered somewhere in between (second pc)
    this is what i want to do
    PC1 ->(wifi)-> [PC2 (wifi bridged with lan)]->(lan)-> ISP modem -> isp

    no my modem isnt wifi enabled, otherwise i would have done it through modem. Also i can just use internet connection sharing on the second pc (which is the one with bridged connections) since my isp doesnt allow internet sharing.(blocked with ttl)

    So we're missing the Wifi portion. Are you using a wireless gateway/AP or router?

    You can't bridge ports if one of them is used for a PPPoE connection to the modem. It in essence shuts off the protocol. You'll need to ICS. The reason you're not seeing PPPoE traffic is because of the bridged connection.

    PC2 (the one in the middle) has a wifi card and an ethernet card. PC1 is connected to PC2 via wifi (ad-hoc connection) and PC2 is connected to the isp modem via ethernet. ethernet and wifi have been bridged on PC2 to allow PC1 direct access to the modem to dial the pppoe connection (which isnt working)

    That's my point. You can't bridge the connection on PC2. As long as you need PPPoE to talk to the modem you 'll have to use ICS on PC2.

    why? cus windows filters out the packets? weird. Also how will ICS help on my case?

I am unable to create a true network bridge. I believe the problem is that whenever I plug an ethernet cable into my computer, my wireless shuts off. I was wondering how it would be possible to have both cable and wireless internet at the same time, in order for the bridge to be successful.
