    Homegroup only showing one way

I just finished upgrading my Laptop from Win7 RC to full version, and now I am having troubles getting home-group to work properly.

The main PC (desktop) is running Win 7 Ultimate (64), Laptop is running Win7 Home Premium (32).

Prior to re-installing on Laptop, Laptop was running Win 7 RC (64) and home-group was functioning properly.

However now, the Laptop is able to see the Desktop via home group, but the Desktop cannot see the Laptop. (They both see each other fine through normal network sharing) The Laptop can see and join home-groups created by the desktop, but the desktop cannot see or join home-groups created by the laptop. (Running home-group troubleshooter on either yields no help)

Both machines are hardwired through the same switch, which is then connected to a router. (both of which are fairly new) And they were connected exactly the same when home-group was functioning properly before.

I realize I could just stick with standard network sharing since that is working, however I've grown to like the home-group functionality much better, and in fact it was the main reason I decided to upgrade my Laptop to Win 7.

Any Ideas what could be the issue? (I already ran the ping -6 test from both machines and they reported properly)

    Hi Yargnit,

Here are a couple of Microsoft Support threads about the same issue:

    Windows 7 - Can't homegroup a 64 bit and 32 bit computer?

32 bit and 64 bit Windows 7 Homegroup sync

Let me know if those help at all.

    Cheers,

The 1st one is just concerning a printer, it doesn't relate to my issue.

I followed the instructions on the second, but no change. Laptop still sees Desktop via home-group, but desktop doesn't see laptop.

maybe it has to do with the 32/64 and that HP is having problem talking to HU.

also you have to check in the homegroup page what type of files to share(like pics and music and video) check to see if those are checked.

I've already gone through all the basics. Like I said I had it working before so I know how to adjust what is shared and so forth.

Not sure if it's relevant, but it may help diagnose the problem; If I change the HG password from the Desktop the Laptop pops up correctly, however when I change it form the Laptop, it loses contact with the HG until I manually change the Desktop to match or change the Laptop back.

It's just odd because I didn't think it was even possible for HG's to only be one way, I thought they were automatically two way.
