Problem with Atheros Network Adapter

hey guys, i have been having issues in the past couple of weeks when it comes to latency on my new computer. i have a HP Pavilion dv7-3160us with Windows 7 Home Edition (64 Bit), and its been awesome, except for when it comes to my internet. when it comes to just browsing online, normally, everything is fine. What really got my attention is when playing online games on my computer my latency is horrid. i will start around 40 or so ms of latency, but as i stay on longer, my ms will sit around 250-950 with spikes of 12-15000. i have read around the web, trying to find fixes but not a single one has really done anything for me. reading through the pages here i found a program called DCP Latency Checker and ran it. it showed that i was having issues (3 or 4 red bars in a row about every 15 seconds or so, at values of about 4000). i followed what the website said to do, disabled different things under network adapters, and found that i stopped getting red bars when my Atheros AR9285 802.11b/g/n WiFi Adapter was disabled. from what i have read i may need to download a new driver, but im not totally sure where to go from here. i have tried using the Update Driver Software... application, but it says that my drivers are up to date. also, for what its worth, while i am on netflix or youtube, i am having issues with interuptions of what i am watching.

thanks in advance for any help or advice
