Make sure the capslock key is off, and try typing in your password again.

Go ahead and hook up the laptop to the router, unless you have a wireless connection. If you have a wireless connection, click on the network icon in the system tray.

You can activate McAfee for the trial version with no worries...they won't ask you to pay if you let it run and at least you've got something to protect before changing for a new AV in case you want to.

Jonathan hi.. I have had it connected to the router.. logged on the laptop it took that password..
I then.. opened I E.. went to avast.. downloaded the avast .. to my laptop.. screen.... I installed the Avast to my laptop.. rebooted..
everything was going great.. I felt better...then I worked on the Laptop..

Registering it and making a Net Work..for my self..by following the prompts..

    Newwork Name.....xxxxxxxxx

    Personal : WPA 2- Personal

Security: numbers and letters here.I accepted those

    EncryptionType showed :
AES Recommended so used that..I said YES

    Security Lever:
    WPA2_Personal Recommended.. so used that

Next it showed my :.. For A Network: choices of the 3 below
    Home
    Work
    Public.. I chose :Public Network
Then it said completed.. so Closed it

Next I registered the ACER on line.. following prompts..filled in spaces.went to MSN.. where I have hotmail:
logged in using current info. saw a message from you ..Clicked> went to this forum.. cound't get my Name or pass word to work.. closed down the laptop after trying a few times.. wanted to reply to you. NO go..
Came to the desktop .. couldn't a connection.. NOT sure it's the routers fault..MSN has been ratty today.. so could have been them.
anyway.. closed down the Laptop.. undone the router..logged in as usual to my DSL.. came here.. to reply.. no problem at all getting in here. to reply.

So that's it for today.. I'm pooped out.
Thanks so very much for your wonderful help.
    Wishing you a dellightful weekend.
    Enjoy !!!
    hugs
ps ...If I need to do any of this differently. Just tell me.. I'm greatful to you.

NON hi.. I never did the activation to the McAfee Security.... I started then a Wizard of some kind.. Check pc for errors.. thing.. I let it run for a few.. then stopped it..
Wasn't sure what it was.. an icon is on the lapto still. Also a MemTurbo4 wizard kept trying to tune my pc.. Don't know what that's about so closed it too...then a Advanced Registery Optimizer 2010 is trying to get me to do that also..seems it is a deep scan thing.I don't want any of these programs.. I will remove them ..
When I can get the router.. desktop and the laptop all talking to each other tomorrow I'll try to get the Laptop online..and get things working that I want on here..
Somewhere along here I NEED to let you all know I have a disc for my Wondows OS in the mail to me.. for this LTop as it was when I received it.
Do I still need to do the .. thing Dave57 said I should do once I get on line.?.. right now as tired as I am... I can't recall the name of it.. supposed to see what all is on my Ltop.. for use later on.. in case I have to revisit it as it was from the day I received it.
    Thank you all again.
    hugs

Jonathan..hi..I failed to reply to your Q. about my laptop..YES ...This laptop is WI_FI.. so next time I'm on it.. should I just click the Icon in the system tray .. to get things moving along ? the next time I want to get it on line.
Maybe that's why I'm having a bit of a problem now.. with the laptop + the desktop .. both staying on line at the same time.. right now the Laptop is closed down.. so the desktop works great alone..without the router.( my normal way to do it)..something messed up my internet connection.. it was RED X's.. no connect... had to un-do the router..
    Thank you...
ps... do we have passwords here ? if so I need to find out what mine is in case I should need it.
