New 3rd party DSL modem
after five years of continuous use, my Speedstream 5100 has decided to give up the ghost. As a test, I got from a friend, a Speedstream 5263 - unused out of the box.
Opened the make new internet connection dialogue - but it seems it would not take. Att is my provider, and they don't like the settings. seems like I need to change the eprom defaults to be compatible with ATT. Only, Speedstream may have been sold to Siemens and there is no support. Oh well, The new modem did work accept for the ATT discomfort.
So, as an acodemic exercise, what do you do to replace a DSL modem?
It would appear that the factory defaults in the eprom must be reset.
It would appear that the Windows 7 wizard does not properly save the new modem.
By the way, a new from ATT modem will be delivered this next week.
