Connected to network, but no internet access
Hi,
I have just bought a new HP Pavilion PC for my parents and have been trying to get it networked. The situation is that they have offices at opposite ends of the house, with the broadband in one office.
I installed a Belkin Universal Repeater (pain the neck to setup) in between the offices to extend the wireless range to the second office. The network signal in the second office strong (five bars) and I have no problems connecting with my laptop (running Vista).
However, the new PC, which has a wirelesss card in, can get on the network (consistently, and the connection is never dropped), BUT the internet access is intermittent at best (works maybe five minutes out of every 30). I cannot access the router admin page when the internet connection is lost, but I can still see all the other devices on the network.
I have tried disabling IPv6, as per a number of forum suggestions, but this didn't help.
Any suggestions greatly appreciated!
Update: Ok, so now for some reason I have full internet access (nothing has been changed), BUT I can no longer see any network devices! I can access the router admin page from where I can see that for somre reason the router thinks the Belkin repeater (i.e. the repeater's mac address) is my new PC - the IP address for the PC is 192.168.1.67. The IP address for the repeater is 192.168.1.100, yet in the router admin page it says that the PC is offline and the router (going by its mac address) is online, but has the PCs IP address (192.168.1.67)!
Even stranger, I can access the wireless printer sitting next to the new PC from the other office (i.e. through the repeater), but yet I cannot see it from the new PC, sitting right next to it.
