Is printer sharing on your printer on. Right click properties (on the printer), then sharing on Windows 7 comp.
Go to network places on your XP, and look for your Windows 7 computer, go in that folder and then connect to your printer (right click connect.)
Also on your firewall if there is the option allow printer sharing on Windows 7. In your You may want to do the same if there is the same option for your AntiVirus.
Go to control panel > Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center > Change advanced sharing settings (on the right) > File and printer sharing on.

If all fails, turn public folder sharing on and then just copy your files from your xp computer to the Windows 7 public folder and print from there? (All this is what I did to start my network printer (Windows 7 - XP - XP Printer))

Hi sarf321. Thanks for the reply, yeah I've done all the network connections I can see all the public folders of each comp. on the networked comps. for some reason when I go to add a new printer on the xp c. I get as far as typing the password for the Windows 7 access, then it comes back with "unable to access *user*"

Hi there
I've posted this a LOT

try post nr 3 in this thread

Networking from Printer attached to Win XP PC to Win 7

I really deserve a rep for this one -- it also works for "Stand alone Network" printers too.

(Hi Mods -- this comes up a lot sharing printers between X-64 Windows 7 and XP or the other way around -- perhaps the post referred to could be moved to the tutorials area).

Cheers

Hi jimbo45, great tutorial, everything going ok until XP l\t wants the right drivers installed on the Windows 7 d\t so go to add x86 user mode but will not accept anything with-out the right architecture, so far tried 4 diff drivers for the canon mp500. Your help would be appreciated alot,THANKS

Found the Answer

Scoured many forums and found this one.... "Installing additional printer drivers (x86) on Windows 7 (x64) - Super User"....It's the first answer ,the one with green tick, ...rename the .inf file, I followed the instruction and badda-bing it bloody well worked. Many thanks to those who posted help and advice.

Hi there
note that the drivers on Windows 7 X-64 must be the Windows 7 X-64 ones and the XP drivers must be the XP ones.

You ONLY install the XP drivers on the XP machine, the Windows 7 drivers are already installed in your case.

Hi Jimbo

I don't think that's entirely accurate (or I misunderstood you)

Windows 7 can install other architecture drivers (eg Itanium, x86, x86-64) and make them available when sharing. This is done under the printer properties > Sharing > Additional Drivers

I installed the 32-bit XP drivers on my 64-bit Win 7 PC, that enabled me to share my printer with my work laptop.
