    windows 7 blocks ftp connection

I have recently moved to windows 7 and cannot connect to ftp servers.

This is not a firewall problem, I can't connect even with the firewall turned off.

It is not a client problem it occurs in any client.

It worked at first, then stopped then connected again after a reboot, then gave up and will not come back.

I have read that other people have had this with vista but nothing I've read on the web works (like repairing system files, playing with firewall etc).

Ftp access is essential for me to upload files to a web server.

I have several Win7 machines and FTP just fine with all of them. I've done nothing special. What client are you using? What do the logs say? What happens if you FTP from the command line?

I use FireFTP, and also a proprietary FTP system supplied by my ISP, both under Windows 7 and have had no problems. Can you ping the FTP servers?

btbprod; Just a guess but try resetting your router if you have one.
Can you upload files in a fourm setting as an attachment?
    Have you tried FileZilla?

I've tried to ftp using the firezilla client; the ftp client inside Dreamweaver; firefox; IE8 and the command line. No luck wiht any.

It's not the router as my laptop will connect through the router.

    Any more ideas welcome

What security software are you running? What software have you installed that makes any changes to the system? Applied and tweaks or change any system settings like permissions, or registry stuff?

    running sophos anti-virus 7.6.17.

"Applied and tweaks or change any system settings like permissions, or registry stuff?" nothing I can think of which would make it go and come like it did.
