Can't copy large files across network in one direction

System 1- Notebook with Win 7 Home (64 bit).
System 2- Desktop with Win XP SP2
Network- Linksys WRT54GS firmware 7.50.2- Netbook is connected via wifi, Desktop is wired.

I use my desktop as a backup for my "work" notebook. I am using SyncToy 2.1 (x64) to Echo my files to the desktop, and I had noticed that the file global-messages-db.sqlite (15,299 KB) would not copy over successfully from my Thunderbird folder. It hasn't worked in weeks.

The error message said- "Error:Unknown error. The specified network name is no longer available. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070040)"

I thought that was strange, but was not worried enough to pursue a resolution.

Then tonight I was using Explorer to copy an 82 MB file over to the desktop and it looked like it was working, then when the status bar got about 5% of the way it stopped, and after about 2 minutes I got a message-

There is a problem accessing \\MADKIWI\Download
Make sure you are connected to the network and try again.

I tried copying a number of different sized files over- and most smaller files get through, larger ones don't seem to work.

I copied files FROM the desktop to my notebook, those copied just fine. Even very large (350 MB) files copied over apparently with no problems.

    Any ideas?

    Firewall, anti virus, IPv6, homegroup

You should be running workgroup given that you have win 7 and XP machines.

Yes, I was (am) running Workgroup.

Just for giggles I updated the firmware on my router to 7.50.8, and now everything works!

I read the release notes for the new firmware, nothing to indicate anything that may have resolved my issues, or is there?

Firmware 7.50.8 - Resolves issue with UPnP denial of service security vulnerability.
    Firmware 7.50.7
    - Resolves issue with not being able to block IPSec pass-through.
    - Resolves issue with router disconnecting from few particular online game servers.
    - Resolves issue with user not being able to get incoming video and audio when video phone is connected to the LAN hosted by the router.
    - Resolves issue with WEP 64-bit key not being properly validated when user enters the key.
    - Resolves issue with disabling UPnP not being effective until the router is rebooted.
    - Resolves issue with Wireless MAC Filter not working properly when there are more than 32 entries in filter list.
    - Resolves issue with DNS vulnerability.
    - Better handling of TCP packet with invalid option field.
    - Updated TZO.com DDNS service support.
    - Adds PPPoE service name support.
    - HNAP 1.2 support.
    Firmware 7.50.6
    - Adds Linksys EasyLink Advisor (LELA) 3 support.
    Firmware 7.50.5
    - Resolves issue with LELA
    - Resolves issue with WAP54G in repeater mode
    Firmware 7.50.4
    - Resolves interoperability issue with DMA2200 and DMA2100.
    - Resolves issue with how multicast packets with checksum error are being handled.

I am happy that it is resolved, but I would like to know why.
